Player’s Bill of Rights

The Glencoe Baseball Association endorses the philosophy of “Athletes First, Winning Second” as promoted by the American Sport Education Program. This philosophy is the foundation of the Player’s Bill of Rights and means that every decision a coach makes and every behavior a coach displays should be based first on what the coach judges best for the athlete, and second on what may improve the athlete’s or team’s chances of winning.

As a player, I have the following rights:

  • Right to have fun in sports
  • Right to an equal opportunity for success
  • Right to be treated with dignity
  • Right to share in the leadership and decision-making of my sports participation
  • Right to participate in physically and emotionally safe and healthy environments
  • Right to proper preparation for participation in sports
  • Right to participate at a level commensurate with my maturity and ability
  • Right to qualified adult leadership
  • Right to play as a child and not as an adult
