Summer Travel and House League Programs

In the summer the GBA hosts programs for 3rd through 6th graders.  Our 7th and 8th graders are eligible to participate in the New Trier Trevian Pony (NTTP) program.    (See www.nttponybaseball.org for an explanation of this program).

One of our principle goals in the GBA Summer Program is to find a place for every child who wants to play summer ball, regardless of skill level, a place to play.  We believe that EVERYONE PLAYS!!  We try to give every child an opportunity to learn and grow, to be successful and to play with other children of similar abilities.  To meet these goals, we field teams in the Lake Shore Feeder Baseball League (the LSFBL, a very competitive Travel League), and either field teams or place players in the Kenilworth-Winnetka Baseball Association Summer League (the KWBA, a more relaxed, recreational League).  We open Registration for Tryouts for the Travel Program in September / early October with a minimal payment to cover the cost of the tryouts required at that time.

LSFBL (Competitive Travel)

  • Beginning with the 2012 Travel Baseball Program, the GBA has combined efforts with the KWBA to field Travel teams comprised of players from both communities.  This new effort, named New Trier Youth Travel Baseball (NTYTB), is looking to build on and improve our programs using New Trier High School methods
  • Teams are organized and separated by Age of players as of May 1 of the current season (9, 10, 11 and 12, where 9s play against 9s, 10s against 10s, etc.)
  • Tryouts for the 10U, 11U and 12U Travel Teams are held in the October / November time frame
  • Tryouts for the 9U Travel Teams are held in the late April / early May time frame
  • Depending on the number and skill levels of interested players, there may be “cuts”
  • Practices and games start in early June and run through the end of July
  • Players must commit to their availability throughout the season
  • Practices and games may be Monday through Friday late afternoon into the evening, on Saturdays from 8:30 through the late afternoon, and on Sundays from noon through the early evening
  • Teams will play both Home and Away games in the North Shore area
  • Paid, independent coaches
  • Separate Workout Programs are also offered to Travel Players.  Please see the section describing these programs (found in the last drop-down in the Programs section of the website)

KWBA (House League)

  • NO CUTS – EVERYONE PLAYS!!  All interested players are assigned to a team
  • Teams are organized by current Grade and are combined (i.e. 3rd and 4th graders player together, and 5th and 6th graders play together).
  • Practices start in early June and League games start in mid to late June and run through the end of July.
  • We will try to organize some earlier June games for KWBA players to help get them off to a fast start!
  • Practices and games may be Monday through Friday late afternoon into the evening, on Saturdays from 8:30 through the late afternoon, and on Sundays from noon through the early evening
  • Teams will play both Home and Away games in the North Shore area
  • Volunteer coaches
